The couple needs
to apply for the marriage license, this is the permit document in your
state that allows you to officially marry under the law.
The two types are 'public' and 'confidential', a
public or
regular marriage is public record, and a confidential is
private.
The rules in acquiring your marriage license varies in each county.
Contact the county clerks office in your city to request the license.
Apply for your marriage license at least one month before the
wedding ceremony. You will traditionally need to provide your birth
certificates, and other official documents.
Once the license is issued it expires in 90 days, and can only be
used in the State of California. When you apply for your license, bring
documents that proof your age, you will need to provide any information
about previous marriages, and pay a nominal fee this fee can vary.
Once you have your marriage license, you need a marriage officiant,
person of clergy, priest or justice of the peace to sign the license.
On your wedding day you will give marriage officiant the marriage
license, he/she will sign it and send it to the county recorders office within
10 business days.
